Positive section of review
The pool was nice, so were the water slides for the kids (not very slippery, need a good polish). The breakfast buffet was substancial and amazing, with a wide variety of food and drink available, usually the same thing every day, but with some small changes - mainly curries but great variety. The room was clean, and recently refurbished so was a good standard from there. Spring rolls @ Asian kitchen were amazing!

When you walk in you dont get the 5 star hotel vibe, çan't explain it, but the entrance is not that "wow factor". They did not advise us there were works going on and it would be noisy from 8am-6pm with concrete drilling etc but this wont be forever - just would have been nice to have been told with how much money we were spending. The main lifts are down one end of the building, with all the suites down the other end, so we were led to a very small elevator that rang 2 star hotel down next to the service entrance where all the workers were coming and going to go up to our room. The restaurants and bars were really expensive for Malaysia and the quality was nothing special. Our room was the 'Lanai Suite' which realistically is 2 ocean view rooms with the adjoining door knocked out and a sliding door put in to make it a "living room", apart from the bed missing it was identical to our "bedroom" with a mirrored bathroom and closest space as our bedroom - not impressed - could of gotten standard rooms for the same price, or slightly less, and had two beds rather than using the day bed for the children. Not happy with this being called a suite, its just two rooms that have been altered slightly. Pool close too early (7pm and 9pm) considering there is limited shade so aren't really useable during most of the day due to the no sun protection and pure heat outside (most people return to the pool around 4pm - so would be nice to be open either all night or at least till midnight )

Shop below property for convenience. Not far of a walk to the main area of Sandakan to get things sorted if you need cash, bus service to somewhere else etc. Air con worked. Service through text messages upon arrival was good to make sure we had what we needed and knew how to work the door. Filtered water available and a kettle.

Wifi wasn't fantastic. Room smelt damp and a bit grim. One or two cockroaches - but we are in the tropics after all so not unusual! It was fine for just 2 nights if like us your budget doesn't stretch to the prices of the accommodation in Sepilok. A Grab to Sepilok cost me and my partner just £5 (GBP) one way and the ride is about 45 minutes or so, so still cheaper to stay in Sandakan and take a taxi to the main sites of Sepilok which is what we used Sandakan and this hotel for.

I loved the view from the dining area overlooking Penang it was very green and grassy I also loved how they had free tea coffee and other beverages nice temperature and not too many mozzies. The rooms were nice with a lot of space and natural light. The rooms were also very clean.

I didn’t like how the mozzies could come in through the lattice in the walls. The grass could turn into mud in some spots due to rain and could be a bit slippery.

The laundry service is bad, 48 hours to get stuff back. The personel is not very efficient and I had to wait 1 hour and half to get my laundry picked up.
