Great location. The hotel is a little tired in the rooms. The reception isn’t the most inviting when you walk down the path but inside is in keeping with the age of the hotel. The staff were exceptionally friendly and the bar and garden area are fantastic. Especially if the weather is nice.
The room I stayed in was large enough and the bed was very comfortable. The shower was a little dated and took about 10 minutes for the water to get hot. There was a sign advising it could take a few minutes, so it wasn’t a surprise. Breakfast was nice and straight forward. The waitress was very helpful and friendly.
Set on the banks of the River Wye, The Saracens Head Inn offers light, modern rooms with free WiFi and private bathrooms. Guests can enjoy freshly cooked breakfasts and seasonal meals.

Beautiful location, plenty of outdoor activities to enjoy and nature trails to explore. A great vibe, outstanding beauty.
Parking is difficult, this is a busy spot. Roads are extremely narrow.
Plenty of great places to eat.
A must see on your holiday.

Beautiful area with plenty of places to walk and things to see and do.
Ate mostly at the Saracens Head where we were staying; food was excellent.
Did venture over the river to the Old Ferrie Inn, which was also good food.

To me, Symonds Yat and the entire Forest of Dean is still such an under-rated and under-valued area. It is such a beautiful place of natural beauty; if you love birds, trees, being out in nature - this place has it all. You can easily get off the beaten path and avoid the more well-known spots (the sculpture trail gets busy at weekends). It's easy to just lose yourself here and just 'be'. For those who love kayaking & canoeing, there's a ton of outdoor places to get into the water. For camper van owners, this place is a wee slice of heaven and, if you get into the heart of the forest, the relatively low light pollution makes from some spectacular star-gazing on clear nights. Enjoy!

A tranquil location in one of the most beautiful areas of the country. Good food is available at the Saracen's head but make sure you book. The narrow lanes leading to the village can be a bit tricky so take your time. It's probably worth arriving fairly early as it becomes very busy during peak periods.

Very scenic area centred on the River Wye with lots of walking routes, though some were muddy in places. We visited after a wet spell of autumn weather and the small ferry across the river was not running, meaning a long walk to the only river crossing in the area, but great views and good for serious walkers.
Claire and John are fantastic hosts and went above and beyond to make us feel welcome. Room was lovely with a stunning view and was breakfast superb.
The location is picture perfect and a great base for heading out for walks and exploring
Part way through our stay, Storm Arwen caused some havoc and the power was lost in the whole of Symonds Yat. We headed down to breakfast in the morning to check what was happening and there was John, out in the gusty winds and sleet cooking all the guests breakfast on the BBQ- amazing!
Absolutely brilliant location, beside the river. Kingfisher cruises operate right outside the hotel as does the hand drawn ferry across to the other side of the river. There’s another very old pub called the ferry serving food on the other side of the river a 10 minute walk on the opposite side. We walked down for a drink as it was a glorious sunny day. Food, staff and accommodation at the Saracens Head were all first class. Beautiful location.
The cottage is very well appointed with every thing we needed and the location is perfect with just a short walk to the local pub at the centre of Symonds Yat. It is a lovely quiet spot and excellent for walking along the river and taking in the fresh air. The two rope ferries are great fun and easy to get across to the other bank where an equally pleasant pub awaits. Happy time spent there
Excellent location for walking around Wye valley. Very impressive views. Very relaxing. Good pubs and hotel restaurants within easy walking distance. Enjoyed hand pulled ferries. Closest ferry is requested by ringing the pub. Suspension bridge down stream. House well equipped for cooking etc. Has smart TV with Netflix access. Ross on Wye and Goodrich castle worth visit.
Beautiful setting by the River Wye-lovely area for walks! The room was large and comfortable and the bathroom was well-appointed with lovely products and good lighting, scrupulously clean! We loved the cozy restaurant and were very pleased with the excellent quality of the meals, including breakfast. The wait staff couldn't have been more friendly and accommodating.
We loved everything about our stay here. The room was cute and clean (a bit small), the staff was lovely, food good as well. They are very dog friendly which we loved! The hotel is beautiful and historic and nestled in the prettiest little village. We will definitely be returning whenever we come to visit our welsh family.
The location of the stay is brilliant! We been to Symonds Yat multiple times and we are very impressed how close the property is to the river and the pub! It’s perfect for a long weekend holiday with friends and families. The deck out the front is amazing, we BBQ EVERYDAY!
The property is in a fabulous location with walking from the door and 2 excellent pubs serving food again within walking distance. The property is very spacious and very comfortable especially since there were only 4 of us. Excellent value for money.
1. The location.
2. Close to Symonds Yat rock.
3. The hotel gardens.
A number of excellent pubs/ restaurants within walking distance of the hotel.
4. Free parking.
5. Comfortable bed.
6. A good selection of tv channels.
7. Good Internet.
Location was amazing. The cottage, its gardens and the view are stunning. The cottage was comfortable and spacious. We enjoyed the river walks, Ross on Wye, Monmouth amd Symonds Yat rock.We ate at the Old Court Hotel every night as so nice.
issue with Booking.com who sold the room we were meant to have due to a "glitch" but the hotel rang -explained and apologised and dealt with the matter very well. we got downgraded, but even so the room was exceptional
Very relaxing and comfortable. Kitchen and bathroom well equipped and bedroom good size. Good position as within walking distance of pubs, ferry and other attractions. Free parking. Local wildlife visible was a bonus.
The breakfast was excellent - lots of choice and very friendly and helpful staff.
The location is exceptional. Lots of parking. Lovely views of the river. Very good evening meals. Nice walks from the hotel.
Loved the area, beautiful setting. Had lunch and breakfast and food was lovely, plenty options for breakfast. Rooms clean, staff friendly and helpful. We had 2 dogs with us and they loved it too
Excellent location on the river. Tastefully modernised and very comfortable room with views along the river. Superb breakfast and evening meal in the restaurant.
The location was fantastic there are plenty of walks to choose from and some lovely dog friendly pubs locally. Will definitely look at returning some time.
