Colchani is best for upscale lodgings for visiting the Salar. The only recommended places to eat are at the hotels. But make sure you bring all you need from Uyuni before you stay at Colchani. But souvenirs and beautiful wool clothing you can get at the market in Colchani.

Hotels in Colchani are the best location if your target is to visit the Salar de Uyuni. It is right at its limit. And it has local souvenirs, wool clothing on the local market. But It has no grosery stores nor drug stores so you will depend entirely on the hotel or transportation into Uyuni to stack up. And the bus station is at Uyuni.

This little town is the entrance to the Salar.
This little town is the entrance to the Salar. We stayed at the Salt Palace for one night after our 3 day tour of the salt flats. Really nice place to stay and we were glad we stayed there at the end of our tour. The town of Colchani is small and remote and is typically where people stay at the beginning or the end of their salt flats tour.
Located directly at the Salt Flats with an unblocked view to the Salt Flats and to the sunset, built from salt blocks like an palace for a king, it is absolutely impressive.
The facilities and the services exceeds any ratings. You feel like in paradise.
They have their own travel in-house travel company, Abigail Hidalgo Corp., who have arranged on short notice an unforgettable tour for me.
The evening Buffet was also very impressive.
The location was great, it only took us about 20-30mins to walk to the salt flat which you can see from anywhere in the hotel. I absolutely loved all of the little dens with the fires. Food was good with a nice selection buffet. Our driver to and from the hotel was amazing. When our train was cancelled he stayed and helped flag down a coach for us.
Beautiful property and super well decorated. They let you hang out around the property if you arrive before check in, and they have a bunch of lounge areas with beautiful views. Restaurant and spa are great too, although much more expensive compared to the rest of the prices we saw in Bolivia (but still comparable/cheaper than US standards).
Beautiful hotel with really nice staff. Had a lot of toiletries, especially for Bolivia. They gave us some free chocolate samples and offered hot drinks at lobby in the afternoon. Also just awesome views. I personally liked the heavy blankets but I don't think it's for everyone.
People at the hotel are so amazing and welcoming! The place is also really beautiful with a lot of cozy spots to hang out. It's very clean, warm, with natural light, and at night you can hang out outdoors in the beautiful deck. I can't recommend it enough!
Unique experience to spend the night in a hotel completely made of salt. The room with a view of the salar was stunning and romantic. They have bikes to rent to tour around the salar.
