This remote property up on the moors is on a working farm surrounded by endless moorland fields and sky. We loved the Granary. It’s small but has everything you might need tastefully decorated. The hot tub was a bonus although rainy weather meant I finally got in there at 7.30am on bank holiday Monday when the sun shone. It’s well located for visiting the Roman forts, Corbridge and walking along the wall.

For 2 people it is very spacious. There were many great little touches like milk in fridge and complimentary cereals and chocolate. Beautiful location. Pub next door that served fantastic food. Great friendly staff. Cottage was lovely. Cant wait to go back.

Haltwhistle was a great location to access Hadrians wall and the Roman forts , we were there on May bank holiday Sunday and almost all the town was shut up except a couple of restaurants and a co op shop. On BH Monday there was one pub serving food and they had shut the kitchen by 7.15 pm having run out of food. I found the town deserted which was a shame.We ate in Jethros cafe on the Sunday night which was great , lovely food and waitresses , can recommend that cafe.carolineUnited Kingdom - 10Scored 10

Liked Haltwhistle been before , Good Centre for the Roman Wall experience, Would recommend to anybody. Also could leave you car as there is a good bus service in the Town to Newcastle Alston Carlisle and the Roman sites, Good food available in the town also supermarkets. No Post Office or Bank though.

The town is marketed as being the geometric centre of Great Britain. It may well be. It is ideally situated a short drive from Hexham and roughly midway between Carlisle and Newcastle. We only spent one night but it is in a perfect spot for visiting Hadrian's Wall. It is near the best museum- Vindolanda and the best section of the wall (Cawfield Quarry) if you want to get a good taste of the Wall but only have a limited amount of time, like we did.

The room was cosy and clean, and the bed was very comfortable. Bathroom toiletries included hair conditioner: a wonderful, unexpected bonus! The cooked breakfasts were delicious and very good value for money. Food in general was excellent: we had dinner here every day. The owner and staff go the extra mile to make you welcome and even have a FREE shuttle bus to take you back to the wall to continue your walk(Haltwistle is a good 2 miles away and that is a long walk at the end of a 14-16 mile day). I liked the helpful contact with Lyn who is very knowledgeable and helpful. Also , I did not use my car all week! the 685 bus, ( use stagecoach it is double decker ) , runs hourly and is a beautiful route, and Haltwhistle station is only a brief walk away .
