The hotel is beautifully situated on Lake Ashi, right beside Hakone Shrine and the Tori gate out in the lake. The hotel runs a shuttle bus from the nearby transpot hub on the banks of the lake, where buses to and from Odawara as well as the sightseeing cruise ships can be boarded. The hotel was also extremely clean and well presented. Our room was spacious and comfortable.

I liked the lounge area very much. Large windows with plenty of places to sit and relax around a fire. Great place to get to know other travelers. They also had a vegan option on their menu.

It’s pretty close to the main train station. The (restaurant) staff was pleasant. We enjoyed the onsite onsen. The town shut down early, so it was convenient having the Box Burger right there.
Pro-tip - Five minutes away is a cute shrine “Hien Waterfall” that should be visited.

The highlights of Hakone for me were the old Tokaido Road, the shrine at Motohakone, the Edo era checking station and the Onshi Hakone Park. There are so many other attractions in Hakone which I didn’t have the chance to see. The 3 day Hakone pass is a must.

It’s a beautiful spot to visit.
It’s a beautiful spot to visit. I recommend 2-3 days to really experience and explore. I got the Hakone free pass and made my way around the loop over 2 days and the scenery was breathtaking, an extra day would have allowed deeper relaxation and extra exploring.
Definitely explore the shrines around the lake and try and get to an Onsen while you are there. I did find it tricky to find tattoo cover patches, so possibly worth looking into before travelling to Hakone if you need to cover up.

Beautiful nature and atmosphere.
Beautiful nature and atmosphere. The trip to Lake Ashimoto was lovely and the scenery impressive. The highlight of our stay in Hakone was dipping in the local onsens, we loved the experience and the feeling of relaxation after a bath. We ate at different local restaurants, mostly found via map apps, which made great food at reasonable prices. We used the Hakone Pass to get around using trains, cable cars and the ropeway, all very convenient and easy to use. We could have used a couple extra days to visit some of the attractions in the area, that we did not have enough time to enjoy.

One of the highlights of our trip to Japan was visiting Hakone. We would wholeheartedly recommend staying in Gora and doing the loop up to the mountain and then on the sightseeing boat. The Hakone Free-Pass offers great value for money.
The Hakone Open Air Museum and Gora Park Crafthouse were amazing
The onsen is very nice, with indoor and outdoor pools and a small sauna, and free ice-cream! The room was big and we got an upgrade with very nice views. Very clean, with comfortable beds. Service was nice, they even drove us to the closest convenience store to buy something for dinner. The gardens in the hotel are beautiful. It was foggy, but I'm sure they have great views when not. We had a great experience. Breakfast was delightful. Wifi worked very well but only in the room. It is located very close to the Tori door by the lake.
The room (family room with tatami area) is generously spacious, with an amazing onsen facility next door. I love that guests can change into traditional outfits and walk around the hotel wearing them. The staffs are helpful and kind.
I am grateful to one of the reviewers here who mentioned that the hotel is accessible from Hotel Okada via an elevator. This saved us from having to walk up the steep hill every time we wanted to go to and from the hotel.
The shuttle to Hakone Yumoto station was also a great addition.
It was an amazing stay at Yuyado Zen, two nights were perfect as we get to spend time exploring Hakone and also fully enjoy the onsen stay. It is near to Ubako Station where you can ride the ropeway to attractions like Owakudani and Lake Ashi. Hotel staffs were very helpful with directions and offer free pickup/drop off to bus station. The food and hospitality were just amazing, probably the best meals we had in Japan! The room was very well maintained, clean and spacious as well. Highly recommend!
Pretty hotel, with a nice view of lake Ashi (when the skies are clear). Very nice public onsen with good amenities- like skin care, hair care and dyson hair dryer, and a foot onsen outsiders with the view of the lake. Food was nice as well, large buffet with western and Japanese food. Also a yukata stand near the elevator with a range of sizes and prints that you can choose from. Free shuttle to and from Odawara station which was very helpful considering it's not so easy to get to the hotel.
We had a room overlooking the lake and on the 2nd day we could see Mt Fuji right in front of us- amazing!
We arrived at Hakone train station and then started the loop. Unfortunately, due to strong winds gondola and boats were suspended, but we were able to get to the hotel by bus. It must be really nice to arrive by gondola and later boat
Boats start right next to the hotel, so we were able to take the first boat the bext day at 9:30 am.
Welcome drinks
Onsen with two different baths each
I loved the dinner and breakfast menus. Each time it was different, and I loved each set.
It was a bit hard to get to, but at the same time that's also made it great as you can easily relax, away from touristy spots. The bus stop is almost in front of the hotel, so it's not bad, but it will take about an hour to get from Odawara Station to the hotel by bus.
It's close to Lake Ashi (one bus ride away), so if you need to go sightseeing (Hakone Cruise), it's not to far.
Great value for money considering that you have access to the onsen at the main building, which is excellent. The public open air bath has a lovely view and on both occasions that I used it, I was the only person hence it felt like a private bath.
The room is small but it works well for a solo traveller.
Hotel is very close to the Yumoto station, just less than 5 minutes away. The staff are all very helpful and fluent in English.
Most of all I love to sleep in tatami beds. The great location and beautiful view and the onsen was nice too. The personnel were great and the dinner and breakfast traditional Japanese which we really appreciated. The hotel were close to Lake Ashi and ferries and buses. 5 minutes walk from the hotel was a possible view of Mt. Fuji-san and we were lucky to see it with a blue sky one morning. Thank you for our pleasent stay.
Everything was perfect. We were able to drop off our luggage in the morning before embarking on the Hakone Free Pass loop. Once we checked-in, a wonderful dinner was served by the ryokan's friendly staff. We were also fortunate enough to have booked the Sakura room where we had a private bath. The public onsens were also fantastic and very relaxing. Overall, a very comfortable stay and a reasonable price!
Great room and amenities. Beautiful ryokan with beautiful garden in the center of the hotel . Onsen inside and outside was well-sized and I enjoyed it. Happy with amenities provided in onsen changing room, especially lotion and hair dryer. Customer service was very helpful and responsive. They suggested a great izakaya nearby when I needed a late night bite after exploring Hakone the whole day.
Don’t search for other hotels if you are looking for a great experience, feeling welcomed, and eat your dinner or breakfast with others wearing Ryokan robe. The private onsen was great! The natural onsen water, not tapped water, does real magic on your muscles and joints. Special thanks to Mr. Tsuji and Liang for their outmost hospitality! It was a real pleasure staying with you.
The accommodation was in a good location right next to the train station for transport to arrive into Hakone and to get buses to Lake Ashi/Mt Kintoki area, for restaurants an shops. The beds were mats on the floor and were very comfortable. We used the onsen during our stay which was a lovely experience. We recommend a stay here. The staff were very helpful and kind.
Location was unbeatable, so close to the shops and restaurants and only 8 mins walk to Hakone-Yumoto Station! The room we got for our family of 4 was perfect - spacious and cozy, and we even had a private sauna in the room. We did not use the attached shower at all because we enjoyed both the shared as well as private onsen in the ryokan immensely!
Everything was perfect: staff were very kind and helpful; the onsen was incredible; the ambiance of the hotel was beautiful; proximity to public transportation and restaurants was ideal; access to nature was easy and offered some gorgeous hikes. I recommend this location wholeheartedly to anyone exploring the Hakone region. It was just perfect.
Loved the private onsen on the balcony of our room, and enjoyed the buffet breakfast and dinner options. It was nice to have the free shuttle from Odawara station rather than taking public transit, but the ropeway was very close to the hotel. The ferry was also very close to the hotel so it was easy to get around with the Hakone Freepass.
Very cute and quiet hotel, we loved the Japanese style room and the private onsen. The breakfast was fantastic and the staff very friendly. Be mindful that the hotel is located remotely from the rest of Hakone, so you'll have to plan accordingly.
Great stay in a hotel focused on providing the Japanese Onsen and Kaizeki experience. The Onsen with lake and Mt Fuji view is really amazing, as well as with the whole experience of wearing the yukata throughout your stay.
The staff will wait on you hand and foot. Public outdoor Onsen is very beautiful. The rooms are huge and luxurious. The property itself is beautiful. Things to do in Hakone are walk able from the hotel.
Excellent breakfast, both western and Japanese styles available. Very nice and helpful staff in the restaurant who can speak Chinese. Nice onsen. 10 mins drive to Lake Ashi and Ōwakudani.
