Great location and a good-sized room. Staff speak little English. Very clean but if you want your room cleaned you have to leave the room key with reception. Breakfast was OK

Perfect location less than a minute from the stairs to the shrine. Only a 10 minute walk to the train. Loads of shops line the stairs. The hotel itself was exceptional: staff, facilities, onsen, restaurant, room - all were absolutely top notch. One of our best stays in Japan!

Might be a bit old but it was a really nice experience to be able to stay in such a traditional ryokan. The interior was also very well kept and tidy. The hosts were really welcoming and helpful even though we arrived really late.
Only a 3-minute walk away from JR Kotohira Station, Takaraya is simple accommodation featuring a hot spring bath. It is a 5-minute walk from the famous Kotohira-gu Shrine, or Kompira-san, area.
At Yumoto Konpira Onsen Hananoyu Kobaitei, guests can refresh in the indoor/outdoor hot-spring baths or sit out by the foot bath, which comes with views of the traditional garden.

The house is a classic style Japanese house with all modern comfort. It is great! Large kitchen. Large bathroom. Large dining room with cosy dining corner and table. 2toilets, 4 huge bedrooms, with tatami mats and beds. . They can adapt the bedrooms to the number of guests.
Laundry machine available and kitchen and bathroom full with bottles and products that you can use. Fully equipped kitchen. We loved the place. All very comfortable, stylish and cosy. Located along a quiet road in the rural countryside between farmlands.
We regretted that we only stayed there 1 night. We would have loved to relax a day at this property and done some nice strolls around the house. All was also very clean.

Kotohira shrine was excellent. You have to climb literally 1000 steps to get to the top, but it's a cultural experience. There is also the oldest surviving Kabuki theater in Japan located nearby. And there's a park called Manno that has a winter-time illumination. We didn't get to see the illuminatio, but I've only heard great things. Maybe next year.

Kotohira-gu, the temple with the horses stabled halfway up,...
Kotohira-gu, the temple with the horses stabled halfway up, was awesome. There were so many beautiful things in the little stalls on the way. The climb itself was not easy. Not extremely hard, just not easy. We saw a lot of elderly people struggling and even collapsed at various points on the climb. They were being cared for of course.
I can't ear udon noodles, so I couldn't try the lical specialty, but I was told of udon making classes that looked pretty cool. It's a nice country area.
We enjoyed our one-night stay a lot! Free parking, very close and walking distance to the Kotohiragu area. The room itself was very spacious for 2 people. The onsen was also very nice, there were multiple hot tubs (including jet/jacuzzi ones) indoors and outdoors, and they switch the onsen between male and female overnight. There's also restaurants within the hotel itself. The deco of the hotel along the main walkway and the reception was quite traditional and was nice to appreciate.
The hotel was in a good location with free outdoor parking close to the entrance. The hotel seems very new with a well designed and comfortable room.
The reception staff were friendly and attentive.
There is a Lawsons next door, only wish that chain was throughout Australia. Also a large store across the road. The whole place exceptionally clean. Got a great night's sleep.
The facility was centrally located. The owners and staff were very accommodating. We were able to communicate adequately even though they didn't speak English and we didn't speak Japanese. The onsens were super clean and the water was toasty. We were impressed with our experience and would not hesitate to stay at the Takaraya again if we ever return to Kotohira.
It is absolutely beautiful, we stayed in a western style room and it's absolutely huge! It also had an amazing view of the mountain behind.
We didn't bother using the onsen as we have tattoos but we walked around the hotel and it's so beautiful with many art pieces and sculptures. The breakfast buffet was also very delicious and the dining hall was beautiful.
The room was wonderful, large and well decorated. The hotel is really beautiful, you can borrow a yukata for the length of your stay, which was really great! The dinner was delicious, a several course meal with different traditional Japanese dishes. The onsen is open 24h, very convenient, very clean, with several baths available.
I had the best stay - the location is really close to both the train station and Kotohira-gu, and the room was well appointed. My host made the stay amazing - he was welcoming, friendly and helpful, and he spoke great English so we were able to get to know each other over tea. I would stay here again.
Located near Kotohira city station, close to Kotohira-gu Shrine. Have 1 onsen for common use and 4 private onsens. Room is very clean, have really nice tableware. Room design is very new in traditional Japanese style. You can also choose colourful yukata to wear. Registration staff was very helpful.
Perfect location less than a minute from the stairs to the shrine. Only a 10 minute walk to the train. Loads of shops line the stairs. The hotel itself was exceptional: staff, facilities, onsen, restaurant, room - all were absolutely top notch. One of our best stays in Japan!
Car park is so big that allowed to stay my car after check out while Konpira shrine visit, also the free umbrella hire which is very solid and even able to use as the climbing stick.
Close to the main gate of the shrine to walk up.
I like the onsen and massage the laundry , and also it is convenient to have the supermarket opposite to the hotel and lawson convenient store next to the hotel and the bus stop for airport bus to Takamatsu
Very friendly and helpful owner suggested both places in Kotohira and in places I told him I was traveling in the future. Quiet and very clean, accommodating with my arrival and departure times.
Staff are professional and nice, they trying their best to communicate with us by English. The hotel is amazing, wonderful environment and excellent dining! Must come again for relaxation.
The room was big and the location was convenient. The onsen is opened until 0000 so can have a good bath even come back to the hotel late. The hotel also include breakfast which was ok.
For the price that we paid, we were getting excellent value. The room had everything that we needed. The breakfast was rather extensive, Japanese styled. Parking was easy.
Gorgeous hotel, room & grounds, including the dining room, lounge & lobby. Japanese-style room was very comfortable, with very attentive and professional staff.
