Dormy Inn was a great find! The rooftop spa facilities were nicer than I expected, with indoor and outdoor pools, a sauna, and a cold plunge. The breakfast was really nice, with local ingredients and dishes mixed in. Overall a great value, would absolutely recommend and stay there again.

We stopped in Morioka on the way to Niseko. It is a small Japanese city with stunning views of Mt Iwate. Our main purpose was to visit friends, so we didn't do much touring, but Morioka is a lovely smaller city, very walkable, with an active city centre of restaurants and many interesting temples. It almost feels like a mini Kyoto while driving around. We enjoyed Wanko Soba, which is famous in Morioka.

I go to Morioka every month or two, while it's a city it doesn't have the crowded or bustling feel. You're also close to nature. The botanical gardens and lake are a short drive as well as Mt. Iwate for climbing. Morioka is also a go-to for Wanko Soba. I've never had a bad meal in Morioka. Overall, Morioka is a good vertical slice of Tohoku and different from the image of Tokyo that saturates people's view of Japan.

We did not spend day time at the city only night time. We were at the ski resort during the day and Morioka is well located to visit the nearby ski resort. Love the drive from Morioka to the country side. People in the restaurant were friendly although very little English was spoken. It feels very authentic for tourists as it is a very down to earth city.

The Castle park and the small river flowing next to the park was really nice. Also the temple district at the north was worth to a visit. Dendenmushi circling the town is convient to visit all city attractions. One day pass is quite economical to be used. The city can also be seen by walking for people with enough time.
I had one day in Morioka with an additional side trip to Hiraizumi. I think the time was sufficient. For people that may eant to enjoy more the downtown area and shopping an additional one day could be useful.
I wish I had more time to try the soba noodles of Morioka.

Morioka is a very nice city with several interesting sights, which can be easily reached on foot. I also loved the 3 local noodle dishes.
It is also a good place as a base for side trips, e.g. to lake Tazawa.

It’s a good transport hub for other tourist sites in the area. Not much to do in and of itself, but a good place to sleep, get some good food, and karaoke a bit before driving out to Hiraizumi or Jodogahama.
Absolute attention to every detail. We travelled from Kyoto all the way to Shikitei because we hoped it would be a memorable experience in a traditional Ryokan. It did not disappoint. Every staff member was extremely helpful, the food was outstanding, the room was spotless and our private open air onsen was to die for. They were also very accommodating for our one year old son, providing toys, baby yukata, and a variety of meals. Shikitei was the highlight of our 17 day trip to Japan.
Beautiful hotel and our room was beautiful and spacious.
It's about 14 minuets walk from Morioka station at a very lively area with lots of restaurants and izakayas, and it's very close to the castle (we took a taxi to get to the hotel and it was very cheap).
There's a starbacks that's a part of the hotel.
The staff were great and did their best to help.
The breakfast buffe was great (mainly japanese food)
Very easy to access once we'd figured out the route from the train station. Perfect little base for what we needed on our travels around Morioka and the surrounding area. Rooms were very clean and well kept, staff were more than happy to help and very patient with our slight language barrier, and the request for close rooms was fulfilled on check-in so we were very appreciative and enjoyed our little stayover!
We had to catch the early bus at Morioka Station, so we decided to stay at Toyoko Hotel, which is conveniently located right across the street. It only takes about 8 minutes to walk from the hotel to the station, even with suitcases. What made our stay even better was that the hotel had a humidifier in every room, ensuring we had a comfortable night's sleep. The morning breakfast was also delightful.
Beautiful quiet location by the lake easy to get to from Morioka. Very clean well maintained facilities including several beautiful onsens. The staff was kind and accommodating despite my very limited Japanese language understanding. I loved the view of the lake and Mount Iwate from my room.
The staff was very polite just like any other standard Japanese hotel. The location is very good with access to small stores and restaurants in the center of the city. The room cleaning was very good. The best part was coffee, tea, and bath salt service in the lobby.
Everything was perfect! The rooms were clean and spacious. でらさん was very nice and super helpful and gave everyone various maps and information about morioka and iwate. The kitchen is also very well equipped and the guesthouse is in a nice old part of the city.
I enjoyed this comfortable hotel near the train station. The room was spacious by Japanese standards and I appreciate being open to crack the window open for fresh air. The staff was helpful and they had a space for my rental car in the same building.
Nice affordable hotel in a great location. Rooms were fairly large, breakfast was decent. Lots of sights and food in walking distance. Parking area was tight but staff moved cars around and made sure our vehicle was accessible when we needed it.
It is a very convenient that there’s indoor spring pool. The food was very good, we stayed 2 nights, and they changed the menu. I even think they upgraded. I love traditional spring hotel. The service is person to person feel very warm.
Nice hotel with modern. comfortable and reasonably sized rooms in a great location across from the station. Very good breakfast with Japanese and Western dishes.
Plenty of restaurants in the area around the hotel.
Very close to the station, staff were very knowledgeable, managed to tell us about places to visit that we couldn't find on the internet. Surprisingly nice hotel for such a relatively small town
Great location near train station and a modern building with good facilities. This was overall the best value of any hotel we stayed in during our 2.5 week trip in Japan.
The hotel is up for some remodelling but clean and solid. It was quiet and pleasant enough. Very close to the main station and well lit so it makes moving around easy.
