La Quinta by Wyndham New Orleans Downtown, hotel in New Orleans

Within walking distance to the French Quarter, La Quinta Inn & Suites New Orleans Downtown offers a complimentary continental breakfast and rooms with refrigerators and microwaves.

Run down rooms, carpets dirty, curtains dirty, beds lumpy. Found hair on the toilet. Had to switch rooms due to cleanliness concerns. The gym had hardly enough equipments to do a full body workout. The breakfast was basic. They had the same thing all days, cold hard boil eggs off the fridge, ...like who wants eggs off the fridge 1st thing in the morning, also had 2 pans of pork patty, not everyone eats pork. Could at least provide another option. I could hear other guest asking the worker where is the scrambled eggs, hashbrown and bacon. The hotel need update badly. I could not walk barefoot in the room with how filthy the carpet was. I ended up switching my first room only to be given a room looking the same if not worst. So I called front desk and was told all the rooms have scruffy furniture's, dirty carpets so I wouldn't be able to get a better room. I did not enjoy my stay.

On the plus side, the desk personnel, with the exception of one young lady who seemed untrained and largely clueless, were excellent - patient, helpful and responsive. The entire facility was well air conditioned during an early (late May) heat wave.

The staff was friendly upon check in. The valet guy had a great sense of humor (“Just tip me $100 tomorrow.”) with a fantastic memory as to which car was ours despite the hotel being full. Staff responded quickly to a burned out light bulb and missing hair conditioner. Great location close to the Convention Center. Will return to this Hilton.

FAQs about hotels in New Orleans

Getting its Rhythm Back

The home of jazz, intriguing New Orleans evokes images of Louis Armstrong, wrought-iron balconies and mouth-watering Cajun cuisine. Louisiana’s largest city, the Big Easy is the beating heart of the Deep South.

Dance down Bourbon Street, where jazz saxophones ring out of traditional bars mixed with more colorful nightlife and entertainment venues. There are several New Orleans hotels near Bourbon Street, spread around the French Quarter with its distinctive Creole architecture.

To the south is Jackson Square, dominated by St. Louis Cathedral. Horses and carts wait patiently by the square, and locals set up their stools and start playing catchy tunes. Just behind is the legendary Mississippi River whose waters are still plied by paddle steamers.

From the river you get great views of the CBD (downtown) skyscrapers and the Louisiana Superdome. Booking.com has several hotels nearby, including some on Canal Street, where streetcars and the famous New Orleans Mardi Gras carnival pass down.

In the northern suburbs is New Orleans City Park, one of the oldest US parks and larger than NYC’s Central Park. Waterways lining it flow into large Lake Pontchartrain bordered by a bayou.

Fun city to visit! Lots of site seeing.

Fun city to visit! Lots of site seeing. Don't miss the WWII museum, Aquarium, French Quarter, Bourbon Street, Preservation Hall, and parks. I wanted to see New Orleans Museum of Art (NOMA), Sculpture Garden and Botanical Gardens, but weather did not cooperate. The city is easy to get around and it's very walk-able. Lots of awesome food and treats galore! Tip: Take bus 202 from airport and save yourself $40 each way! p.s. T-shirt at airport said NOLA is for LIVERS! ha ha

There is a kindness to the people in New Orleans that is really unlike any other place, and I have traveled a lot. Everyone was kind. I never felt unsafe, even walking through an area I was told was not great by a hotel staff person. The food is unrivaled. It's very walkable. It could use some infrastructure and social services help, the sidewalks were literally coming up in many places and unwell people were many. 21st Amendment (a bar) was great. Besame (a restaurant) was incredible. Go twice if you can. I don't drink, but every place offered me lemonade or alternative, without vibing me about it, which was nice. Least judgemental place on earth, I think. I went through Bourbon Street at night because it's NOLA, but one walk through was enough. Visit Ms. Rosa at Laura's Candies and get yourself some pralines. Lower Garden District is cooler than Upper in my opinion. And try the strawberry limeade from Mojo on Magazine Street in the Garden District. You haven't had it. Trust me.

I love the city of New Orleans.

I love the city of New Orleans. The people are friendly, and the music is great. Then don't let me forget to mention the food. Everything was good even Panda Express taste better than mine from back home (Tennessee) lol. I didn't feel uneasy there of course I was watching my surroundings when out. In my opinion it's not as bad as people make it seem. I'm a single female who traveled solo to meet some friends. I felt just fine walking around by myself before I met up with everyone else.

Do the ghost tour & swamp tour.

Do the ghost tour & swamp tour. Listen to the locals when they tell you were the best places to eat specific food is. They're always 10/10. I would come back just to do brunch at Ruby Slipper again. The people of New Orleans are the salt of the earth and their kindness is infectious even to us often cold northerners.

The hotels location was absolutely incredible could not have asked for a better place in that regard the ambience and character were wonderful. It is an older hotel. That is well taken care of with a wonderful interior courtyard. The staff was amazing and overall, I really liked it and would go back myself. One other thing they have parking about a two minute walk from the hotel, which is a real plus. The only issue we had was there was no elevator at this hotel, and it was not prominently announced when you reviewed it on the website. I was traveling with a family member with severe COPD and we had to traverse three flights of stairs to get to our room. I had sprained my ankle several days before on our trip and it was a severe sprain and getting up and down those stairs was very difficult. If you have any issues with breathing or mobility, this is not a place for you otherwise I would recommend it wholeheartedly.

This is a well located and very beautiful property. Having a small fridge in the room and access to a microwave oven really helped my somewhat long stay in New Orleans. I only needed to walk one block and I had access to a streetcar that would take me downtown and the French Quarter. The staff there was friendly and very helpful in getting me checked in and out during strange hours. One employee waited over an hour past their shift to get me comfortably into my room upon my late arrival.

The location, staff, breakfast and facility are the best. All the staff are very friendly and ready to help with anything. The room was very spacious with a kitchenette. The hot breakfast was very generous. check-in and check out was quick. If you plan to take a cruise, the location is the best for both walking distance to the French Quarter and walking distance to the cruise port. It is in a very safe and quiet area. One the best hotels that we have ever stayed.

The location of this hotel is AMAZING just a short walk across Canal street and you are in the heart of New Orleans- 15 minutes to Jackson Square/Cafe Du Monde/The French Quarter. The hotel was located in the heart of the French quarter within walking distance to Bourbon and Royal street and the Ruby Slipper Cafe. The hotel is an older facility but is located in the heart of the French Quarter. We had an interior room which cut down on the street noise, which can be considerable at night in New Orleans. The room was comfy and had everything we needed. The one breakfast we ate in the hotel restaurant was OK but not fantastic.
