It has one room with a balcony, and I immediately reserved it when I knew I would be stopping in this small town. It wasn't much more expensive, but it made the room bigger, and I could sit outside at night and relax. The breakfast was really excellent. It's not a buffet; you enter the restaurant and your table has been set out for you. It was a big breakfast, and I couldn't eat everything. But I tried. Everything was super fresh and flavorful. I also had something to eat there the evening before, and although the menu wasn't huge, the food was great. The town is very small, but you can walk across a footbridge to an island where there are ancient ruins of a fortress. Sometimes this site is used for concerts and live events, although none were scheduled when I was there. I went for a quick swim in the lake nearby. I discovered a fabulous Latvian beer called Valmiermuiza in this place.

We arrived very late in the evening but the host contacted us beforehand so there was no problem gaining access to the property. Communication in general with the host was brilliant and we would definitely recommend it as somewhere to stay when visiting Aluksne.
